Mar 1 - Week 8

 Overall:

Excellent week! From navigating the EOC offsite dynamics to leading a record-breaking live broadcast, I had the opportunity to display executive presence, build political and social capital, and deepen key relationships. The mix of structured leadership engagements and informal moments created opportunities to shape conversations, elevate discussions, and deploy influence.

At the same time, I must manage internal distractions efficiently—specifically, handling Bev’s disruptive tendencies without escalating conflict or losing focus.

Takeaways from Week 1:

* Leadership isn’t just about speaking—it’s about influence beyond the stage.

* Real impact comes from both structured sessions and informal relationship-building.

* The ability to stay agile in high-stakes moments defines executive presence.

* Moderation is an art—timing, clarity, and structure are key.

* Political capital is only valuable if strategically deployed.

Behavioral Takeaways

1. Listening and empathizing with colleagues in difficult moments strengthened my network.

2. Balancing authority with accessibility is crucial—both in leadership panels and informal settings.

3. Anticipating what an audience needs before they realize it creates a seamless experience.

4. Framing matters—sentiment alone doesn’t land if the wording doesn’t fit the moment.

5. Cultural discussions are critical, but must be anchored in business reality.

NOTES:

Work:

* EOC Offsite: Managed the volatility panel flawlessly, with the CEO and four EC members jumping in with questions—a sign of high engagement.

* Live Broadcast on Retirement Scams: 10,000 registrations, 5,000 live attendees—a massive jump from usual numbers.

* UPenn & Drexel Visits: Built long-term partnerships to integrate social research into retirement security and guide AI to prevent bias.

* Retirement Savings & Health Insight: Connecting financial decision-making to healthcare can enhance motivation.

* Managing Bev: Containment Without Confrontation

Formalize communication protocols to structure research updates and avoid reactive demands.

Let finance recognize inefficiencies rather than escalating concerns myself.

Strategically flag disruptions to HR without direct complaints.

Wait for an organic opening to address concerns with her boss while keeping the focus on process, not personalities.

Maintained only 5% mental energy on this—avoiding distractions while keeping my team culture intact.

Home:

* Dinner at Sura (Philly) with Mini & her Mom—ambiance A-, food B-.

* Dinner at Semma (Manhattan) to celebrate the week—ambiance A, cuisine A, experience A+.

* Shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue—picked up a Zegna jacket, slacks, and shoes.

Health & Fitness

* Kept up with morning walks, including a beach walk in Miami.

* Maintained stamina across long days and high-intensity discussions.

Music:

* No direct updates this week, but need to return to piano focus soon.

* Major energy was spent on leadership, but music remains a long-term pursuit.

Writing etc:

* The week itself was a study in storytelling—crafting narratives that resonate.

* Moderation skills reinforced the importance of structured storytelling—how to guide discussions effectively.

* Captured key insights for future reflections on leadership, AI, and policy.

Social:

* Strengthened existing relationships and built new ones at the EOC.

* Empathy during the “tornado” moment at the offsite led to deeper personal connections.

* Dinner & reception conversations expanded my influence in both formal and informal settings.

Sports:

* No direct engagement, but the WNBA Commissioner’s talk was a standout leadership session.

* Would like to build more time for personal fitness/sports engagement moving forward.

Travel Plans:

* Future trips will focus on balancing strategic engagements with personal reflection time.

* Ongoing consideration of river cruises as a structured travel plan.

Entertainment:

* The offsite itself had entertaining elements—Shark Tank, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire formats.

* Would like to make more room for personal entertainment—books, music, and movies.
